For gambling on games, Jontay Porter has been banned from the NBA

"There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of the NBA competition." "The integrity of the NBA is as important as the integrity of any other league in any other sport, so there must be limits and penalties for those who break those rules and gamble to make money," Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

The NBA announced Wednesday that it has suspended Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter for betting on games, providing information to gamblers and feigning illness to influence bets.

The 6-foot-10 forward and centre is the brother of Denver Nuggets sharpshooter Michael Porter Jr. and has spent much of his career in the NBA's developmental G League.

"There is nothing more important to our fans, our teams and everyone associated with our sport than protecting the integrity of the NBA competition, which is why Jontay Porter's blatant violations of our rules will be met with the harshest punishment," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. Silver said in a statement.

A representative for the players' union did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Missouri native played in 26 games for Toronto this season, averaging 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest. He also appeared in 11 games with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2020-21 season, averaging 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds.
